Fall 2021 Auditions

COVID-19 will not stop choral music at Cornell University, and we are eager to meet new singers!

If you are interested in joining our choral community, please see below for instructions about our audition procedure this fall. Our goal in auditions is simply to get a sense of your vocal technique, your range, and your ear. Everyone who joins our choral program is still learning and developing their skills, and we are eager to find the best musical community for you.

We are excited to be auditioning in-person this semester. Auditions will be held during the O-Week into the first two days of class: from Aug 23-27th.

STEP ONE:

We try to make the audition process as low-stress as possible. We are just so excited to hear that you want to sing at Cornell, and we just want to hear your beautiful voice!

Audition time slots will open up on Thursday, Aug 18th during the first day of move-in. For now, please fill out this interest form: https://forms.gle/TpkKLK8H6SwiRHg56

Time slots will be in 10-minute intervals between 10am-9pm, depending on the day. Please arrive 10 minutes early to your audition. There will be current members of the groups to greet you and to answer questions about the ensembles. In the audition, students can expect to be taken through several vocal exercises and pitch-matching tests, and will also be tested on sight reading.

STEP TWO:

Based on this first round, some singers may be invited back for callbacks. Auditonees who are chosen for a callback will be informed on the night of Friday, Aug 27th, when they will be given further information. Callbacks are expected to take place on Sunday, Aug 29th during the afternoon for the Glee Club and the evening for the Chorus.

STEP THREE:

Decisions about choir membership will be communicated by Wednesday, September 1. Accepted singers will be expected to join our regular rehearsals and be able to register for choral classes at that point.

We’re so excited to hear from you!

Please contact Sarah Bowe (sbowe@cornell.edu, director of the Cornell Chorus and Glee Club) and Dr. Stephen Spinelli (spinelli@cornell.edu, director of the Cornell Chorale and Chamber Singers) with any questions.
